I can't help you much as far as a 2 meter only radio.  I've bought dual 
band radios for the last 20 years since I've had a uhf repeater of my own. 
Happy shopping!!  I agree, Kenwood is certainly accessible and their 
programming seems to have a bit of logic.  I can program my Kenwood f6 
talkie without the book.  Icom is another story.
