I have used 2 different Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (standard) install discs. Also tried to install a backup Acronis image after I wrote this, but it failed to restore. I then tried to write all zeros with the Western Digital disc and got a CRC 0115 error code. I'm wondering if the new disc could be bad. I don't have another machine or device to check it in. The only connection to the motherboard is a hard soldered socket, so no cables to check. The laptop is 3 years old, but wasn't giving any indications of failure before the hard drive failed.
