My simple suggestion: Just taste it. Curiosity is getting the better of
me. If you can't even see any soot why is it so doggone important to know
if there is any? Sounds darned expensive to find something you can't see.

Does anybody have experience with testing for the presence of fire soot or
smoke residue on masonry materials such as limestone? We are considering
trying Gas Chromatography Tests of alcohol wipes taken from a building

visible presence of soot but we want to be sure. Any comments on GC testing
or other methods would be appreciated.
