brandon:
the biggest amateur radio outlets in the US seem to be:
AES, ham radio outlet, and universal radio.
Ham radio outlets website is:
http://www.hro.com
universal radio's website is:
www.universal-radio.com

As far as accessible transceivers, as was said, the kenwoods are the top of
the list for accessibility via voice output.
for HF, the ts 480 which covers 160Meters through 6 meters is the most
accessible.
The TS2000S is the next most accessible, which covers 160 meters through 70
centimeters.
As far as VHF/UHF rigs goes, the kenwood TM V71 mobile rig is the most
accessible via voice output on the market right now.
Following that, are the older TM V7A, and the TM G707 radios wich are both
out of production now.
As for accessible Handheld rigs, the kenwood TH F6A which covers 2 meters,
1.5 meters or the 220MHZ band, and 70 centimeters is very accessible, though
it does not have voice output.
Next to that, or perhaps above that, is the icom IC T90A which covers 6
meters or 50-54MHZ, 2 meters and 70 centimeters and has CW readout of the
frequency.
The major differences between these two handhelds beyond the cw readout on
the icom, is that the kenwood has 220MHZ coverage, the icom has 6M coverage,
and the kenwood has SSB receive capability.
there are some other small differences that are sometimes very
individualistic when choosing which radio to use or perchase.
ham radio outlet and universal radio stock all these radios that are still
in production, IE the kenwood TS480, ts2000, icom IC T90, kenwood TH F6A and
the kenwood TM V71 mobile.
there are also two voice readout swr/watt meters availible for matching and
tuning your antenna system and monitoring output.
these are the LDG TW1 HF/6meter unit, and the TW2, which covers VHF and UHF
frequencies.
both are still availible at
HTTP://www.w4rl.com

If you are looking at perchassing a radio, you'll have to be specific as to
what you need and want, and can afford, in order to get a better idea of
which one of these radios you might want.
some prices...the ts480 runs around $1200, the ts2000 runs around 1600, the
tm v71 around $300, the IC T90a around $300 and the th f6a around $300.
There is also the icom IC7000 which has voice output, but doesn't speak any
of the hundreds of menu items that are necessary for operating the
rig...that runs around $1500.
