mark:
if both towers are the free standing type, and were only up for 9 years, and
taken down by someone who new what they were doing, IE nothing was bent,
cut, or no sections were accidentally dropped during the uninstallation,
then $250 plus even $500 for shipping is still a pretty good deal for what
you are getting.
Like I said, if they are free standing and in decent shape.
if they are the smaller profile towers such as those that would be put up on
a house or guyed, then $750 isn't a great deal for both.
That said, you should probably do some searching around your own area. I
know around here, many of the older hams, or even younger ones are moving or
have developed different priorities in their lives and are taking down, or
giving up their towers for free or very close to it.
Sometimes you can pickup an older tower for free, you just have to arrange
for it to be taken down...you can often obtain antennas along with the tower
wich is a definite plus.
but as I said, if these towers you are interested in meet some good
criteria, and you have the budget, i'd go for it.
You could probably even sell one of the towers if you aren't going to use it
for a few hundred bucks to recoop some of your cost.
you should also try contacting some of the tower stores and ask who they use
to ship towers around the country.
HRO, AES etc. perhaps texas towers might know who is a good cross country
shipper for large towers.
