the plumber came in yesterday and asked me how to stop heat from going 
up the chimney of his friend's fireplace... I told him that his friend 
can have more heat in the room if he shuts the damper all the way closed 
though he may not like the smoke -- but if you want to get rid of the 
smoke expect some heat to go up the chimney. if you want heat get a 
stove, if you want pretty get a fireplace. I wld go for a rocket stove 
if I had the space
