yup, if you have a PCI slot wireless card, and the antenna is close to the 
back of the tower, it'll be like any other radio antenna that is close to 
metal and doesn't have a clear shot in the air...it'll couple, decouple and 
generally not perform very well.
especially when your dealing with minimal power levels like in wireless 
LAN's.
if we could boost everything up to a watt or two, we'd never have these 
issues.
and, actually, american ham operators can legally do this under part 97 i 
think it is?
you can alter power output and use high gain antennas that increase ERP on 
wireless networks.
