Hi.
I wanted to share a nice product I got from WAL-MART. I asked about this a
while ago, and I finally had enough money to think about getting it. I
can't tell you the brand name of the battery that I got, but WAL-MART had
what I wanted. I'll describe it so if you want it you can tell them what
you want.
I've been looking for a rechargeable battery that had either a lighter
socket on it, or an AC plug. I wanted this so I could make my tiny XM radio
into a portable device. As I said, I don't know the make of the battery,
but I was able to describe it well enough to get what I wanted. This device
has a handle on it to make it easier to carry. It has jumper cables on it,
as well as a lighter socket to power things like cell phones, camcorders,
laptops, and so on. It has a knob that turns the jumper cable current on,
so I'm not going to worry about that, unless I have to help someone who
drives out. This device can provide up to 300 amps of current to jump a
car, but I didn't buy it for that. It has a small AC adaptor that trickle
charges, and I emphasize trickle. If the battery has near a full charge, it
only takes 1 to 2 hours to top it off. If, on the other hand, the battery
is drained, it takes a whopping 60 to 72 hours to fully charge it. The XM
radio I have draws minimal current, so I probably could run it off this
battery for days if I wanted. I have a battery powered equalizer that I can
plug into the radio, so I can adjust the volume of it. The great thing
about this battery is it only costs just over $40.00, and it would make a
nice thing to power an HT. I plan on putting it in my back pack and listen
to XM while I'm waiting for my ride on campus.
I wanted to share this. Oh yeah. This device can be found in the
electronic department of WAL-MART. Look there or in automotive.
Thanks to those who steered me to what I wanted. I'm topping the battery to
give it a full charge, and I may actually take the pup for a walk and see
how practical my portable XM will be.
Have fun, and don't work too hard.
