>From within Echo link, ALT-T for  tools menu, then "V" for "adjust Volume" 
submenu.  In that submenu, there are  2 choices, choose " recording".  A new 
window will open and you will be in the windows  mixer controls.   Be sure 
that "microphone" is selected and not "line in".  You can adjust the 
microphone volume here.

  As Kevin mentioned yesterday, you may have a 20db boost for the mic.  Look 
under the microphone settings  for an "advanced" button.   Click it and 
select the 20db boost.
