Hi Butch.

I don't have one of these radios, so I could be totally wrong, but I did
take a look at the menu descriptions that someone sent to this list.  If I
remember correctly, there's a setting where you can adjust the voice level.
I have a Kenwood TS-2000 that has a speech chip in it, and there is a menu
setting where you can change the level of this speech.

I'm throwing this out there so you have something to look for.  Hopefully
someone who has a radio like yours will be able to give you more
information.

Congratulations, by the way on winning the radio.  Ham radio wise I haven't
won anything, but I have been lucky in other drawings, and I've learned how
to be the third caller, or whatever numbered caller to a radio station and
have won stuff that way.

If you don't like the radio, I'll give you $5 for it.  <grin>
