I can't give you a definitive answer on that specific
radio, but I own an Icom ICR75 and it has a
software-controllable back light on its LCD display. In the
factory default configuration, this light comes on at 128 on a
scale between 0 which is off and 255 which is full brilliance. I
have been playing occasionally with computer control of the
receiver under linux and have been able to change that setting.
Since I can't see it anyway, I usually keep it off but if it is
controllable, it can be accidentally controlled. For sighted
users, it is a value that can be set from one of the menus so
you might have accidentally dialed up the wrong menu and dimmed
it out when you were really trying to maybe select a different
filter or set one of the other parameters. I am just guessing
but you might look in to that to see if you can get the light
back on.
