Hey Tom,

This is another one  of the multiple Steve's on the list, and you and I 
discussed this in some depth some months ago.

Just a simple serial connection from rig to pc and the free  radio control 
software for the 480 from:
http://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/software_download.html

Or some third party software like Ham Radio Deluxe.

This will also let you drag your QSO logging kicking and screaming into the 
21st century, since this same serial connection will let the logger grab 
freq and mode from the radio automatically.

This will all be well worth the few bucks for a serial cable and the 2 
minutes it will take to hook it  up.
