Radio Shack shows the ATR-30 for $36.95.

They also have, and I actually bought one earlier today, an electret
microphone element with leads. This is intended for people to supply their
own housing.

The frequency response on this thing is claimed to be 30 - 15000 hz.

If you're interested, the catalog number is 270-092.

I figure I can have $3.97 worth of fun playing with it, stuffing it into who
knows what, like I did with all those old speakers stripped from discarded
radios and televisions long ago.

I asked a local BC engineer about it, and he said he uses this element as a
replacement for his portable audio recording systems.

I want to try it both with my Olympus DS50 recorder, and with my TS570.

Any suggestions as to a suitable housing?
