Howard:

I am taking this radio portable. I'm using a Buddipole, and am wanting
everything to fit into a case. I currently have the TS 570 set up this way,
but I'm wanting something maybe a little smaller. The Buddipole works on
several bands, but I mainly use it on 20 and 40. It tunes well with the
tuner built into the 570.

The 480 has a control head that is connected to the radio by a cable. Can't

get much smaller than that.rest it on your stomach, lay on the couch, take a

nap. What's better than that?
As far as the tuner, what's your antenna? How much power, what bands? How
far off resonence is the antenna with out a tuner?
