well...there is always DStar.
when you use the DStar dongle, it is much like echolink.
but that is where the similarity ends between DStar and echolink.
DStar is a fairly powerful digital communications system.
It is rather cost prehibitive and a bit too proprietarial at the moment, but 
it does have a whole lot of potential for the future of ham radio...or at 
least something like it anyway.
