Bill,
    Panasonic is a good phone, so dont toss it.  Keep looking for the 
receipt.  Or find someone with sight to check out the phone.  Sounds like 
the base went south.  What model is this phone?

    I also have a Panasonic.  I spent a lot of time last year looking for a 
phone that would meet my needs as a deafblind person and sadly, this model I 
have was the best I could get.  None of the other brands come close 
especially in talking features.
