The topic of leaky gut was addressed this morning under the subject "stomach
distress".
The poster said, "as a celiac, most suffer from leaky gut syndrome. an
interesting pt of info is that leaky gut is also caused by other disease,
including arthritis. YOU MUST HEAL THE GUT...period, end discussion."
The cause/effect is misplaced in that statement.
- leaky gut is NOT caused by arthritis
- arthritis (and other auto-immune diseases) are triggered/caused by having
a leaky gut.
If you had a leaky gut before you got sick, that probably contributed to
your developing celiac diease, and/or other auto-immune diseases. Leaky gut
can be caused by a number of things including but not limited to,
infections, pharmaceuticals and lifestyle choices. See Dr. Fasano's research
with AT-1001 for more on this topic.
