I want to purchase a CD ROM writer for archival purposes. I know that SCSI
is faster and probably better but I don't have a SCSI setup and I won't be
using the drive that much so IDE will be adequate for my purposes. I will
use the drive to make backup / archival CD's and maybe an occasional audio
CD. I will also use the CD as a second CD ROM drive with something like
Bookshelf left in it so 6 times read speed will be fast enough. I will
probably initially make something like 6 CDs and after that I will be
surprised if I make one per month. I am not looking for the best or the
fastest but I do want something that is easy to install and is very reliable.
Do these drives install like any other CD ROM drive or do they have
special cards? I assume they must have special drivers and you must need
some kind of software program for burning CDs. How long does it take to
burn a CD if you will be burning the whole 650 megs. Do you need to
dedicate a 1 gig partition to copy from? What is the procedure? I will be
using this on a Network so I don't think I need an external drive....or do
I? Recommendations for a drive and software to run it that will meet my
purposes or any other tips / advise would be appreciated.
