Thanks Tom. I have had gardens for some years, but am planning to get "serious" as I go into retirement. Phil Spottswood

I have grown veggies indoors in pots the last few years in the winter using
ust a large west-facing window for light. That room is always very cool
oo, rarely over 60 degrees, and lower when it is below zero outside.
You need to grow only cool-season crops under these conditions. Onions,
arsley, lettuce and anything from the kale/cabbage/broccoli family will
row. I like Rocket.
Light is limiting though so things grow more slowly and are weaker than
ormal.
In the fall I let my the veggies go to seed in the garden. Usually there are
lot of sprouts in the late fall. I dig these up and transplant to pots and
ring them inside. All of the above-listed veggies will work this way.
I also dig up larger, established plants if they are still healthy. Parsley
nd rocket (argula) transplant well. Onions too for the green stems.
By the way, potted flowers like petunias can come inside too.

I would be very interested in learning from you about how you are
gardening. I will look up the book you recommended on 4 season gardening.
  Thanks. Phil
