Ken that clear pane is to to give you a view of the passerbys should there be any. You don't want folks sneaking up on you while your pants are around your ankles.
we like to modify our toilets around here to suit our needs and fears. my favorite is a nearby neighbors out house with a gun port should a deer approach with in range while on the throne there is no need to rise up to fire.
