As a rule the casemates were covered with lead not copper.
At Jefferson and Adams we had salt deposits on the second tier of casemates.
The forts that I have been involved in (8 to date) all cycle salt in and out on a daily basis. As far as we can tell the is no visible damage caused by the salt. The brick and mortar are performing very well for being 150 years old.
Most of the damage is caused by engineering and material selection problems not salts or other salesman talking points.
