Keep wondering. I think they are still pretty much at the point where 
face/object recognition is not quite worked out but I get the impression 
if there were a gun, or a suitcase that was sitting and not moving, that 
they may be able to pick that up fairly quickly as a focal point... but 
humans need to monitor the visual data. If something is out of pattern 
then humans need to look at it. I think though that it is highly 
effective as a deterrent psychology -- we are being watched. I heard 
that since 9/11 lower Manhattan has something like 3,000  video 
monitors... the quote,  "You can't pick your nose down there without it 
being recorded." But the problem is that someone has to watch all that 
boring stuff? I don't think so. But when the bump happens they will be 
able to track it.
