Does the 71A have the weather function to monitor the 10 channels and get weather alerts?
The 710A also has a built in clock for APRS.

Hi Richard,
I just recently purchased the TMV71A and it is great. The TMD710 will probably a built in TNC, which might be helpful for Packet or APRS. It would depend on what you want to spend. The TMV71A can run between $250 to
$375 and the TMD710D will run about $450 to $475 with the speech chip. I can't answer the question about application about the speech chip. If they are the same, you have a speech chip and a digital recorder together. Maybe others can answer this or Ham Radio Outlet or AES might be able to answer this.
