Gary,

If you don't have it already, go here and get the free mcp-2000 software
from Kenwood:

http://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/software_download.html

This software is pretty basic, but you can save menu settings and frequency
memories. I can't remember the last time I had to do a reset of the radio,
but in the first few months I got so screwed up that I had to reset several
times. If you need to do a full reset, you will lose all your settings, so
nice to have it backed up on the computer to reload back to the rig.

BTW, and for what it's worth, to connect your new rig to the pc for the
above software or any other software for that matter, you need a 9 pin
serial cable. This has to be a straight through cable and not a null modem
cable which has 2 wires crossed. The radio has a 9 pin male plug, so you
will need a cable with female end at the radio or a gender changer.

Have fun, Steve KW3A
