I was the site super for Phila city hall..... for the only part of the
exterior restored;...east elevation Portico ;
 the conservator was Vetetta Group. There is alot of very fine marble stauary
all over that master piece to second empire;
 most of it by Calder (the elder) in fact I fell in Love with a large female
nude about about 75 ft up
and rode out the blizzard of 95 with her; but thats another story
Interestingly enough the masons have a Grand lodge
 right across the street( wot a coinsidence?) with a great lodge library on
the mystical in( temple building );
 and George Washingtons masons apron (under glass ) with the skull and cross
bones on it...and you thought we were founded by Pilgrims  any way it sure
beat the work shantie;
 and a great place to ride out a N'orEastern. I n response to Katherine
enquiry about working in preservation;
and money is not important; find out what big jobs are up for bid; go round
and see the G>C who gets the job;
and apply for assistant to the project mgr; every G>C who gets these jobs has
to gear up for them; oh yea;
 reading blue prints and no talking out of school are a plus. If you can keep
out of the fights;and see past the paper work your responsible for ; you can
learn alot;a quick wit helps as well..thats about it....oh yea...SF AIA was
great...16,000 architects.....solar roofing systems;stone guys wood
guys;plumbers;door & window...but somehow all fresh..meybe thats S.F...regards
