| As long as Americans entertain themselves via their esophagus; eating for
| pleasure rather than nourishment, pathology will thrive. About 95% of human
| ailments are from the so-called food we ingest. Most of that food is
| acid-forming in nature. Refreshing your memory about acid/alkaline foods, here
| are some quick facts:
| Acid-Forming Foods
| All dairy products except butter which is neutral.
| All animal products except blood and bone.
| All grains and grain products except millet which is slightly
| base-forming.
| Alkaline-Forming Foods
| All vegetables except asparagus which is minimally acid-forming.
| All fruits excepting certain nuts, blueberries and olives.
| All sprouts.
| Some nuts--almonds, chestnuts, coconuts.
| Alkaline and Acid Forming Elements
| Alkaline-Forming Elements: calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium and
| iron.
| Acid-Forming Elements: phosphorous, sulfur, chlorine, silicon, iodine
| and bromine.
| The above list is not complete, but the major elements are listed.
| Therefore all cereals, breads, rice etc., are acid forming; particularly rye
| and wheat. When the proper diet is in place, no thought should be given to
| this subject; a proper 80% - 20% alkaline/acid relationship should exists.
| If the rules are broken, penalties exists. Suffering acid stomach is difficult
| enough without the accompanying sour disposition, and years later possible
| ulcers. Antacids only aggravate the problem by offering a quick fix-me-up
| solution of the symptoms and never get to the cause.
| When acid stomach arises the body uses its reserves of alkalis. When these are
| exhausted it robs itself of calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium and iron,
| etc., from its bones in order to neutralize the acids. This results in
| osteoporosis of the bones and teeth.
| Meat eaters should be cautious because about 6% of meat is usually uric acid.
| We have no enzymes to break down foreign uric acid, hence the body must draw
| upon itself to neutralize this acid. Unfortunately, much of this neutralized
| uric acid ends up in joints causing what is call arthritis.
