Steve, when the upgrade disk offers to do a fresh install, it is preparing to overwrite the Windows files only. Unless you choose to reformat the hard disk (no need to do that), all your data files should be fine. Of course you will lose all your configurations and will need to re-install your applications.
Good luck.

The upgrade disk, of course, offers me the ability to install again, but (even though I've backed up a lot) there are still files I can't afford to lose. Is there a way to do this without destroying any files?
If anyone can help me get my system running again and not lose any files, I'd really appreciate it.
