I might as well take a stab at this, too. To me, it sounds like Drive E is
having trouble with its transport and tracking if it is being that finicky
about what will read. I say chuck it and get a new one. Increasing your RAM
as the previous poster suggested will make your machine faster, but it
likely will not affect your current issue. See if your machine is still
under warranty with Dell and if they can replace that ailing drive with a
fresh one on the cheap. If Dell can't or won't, you can likely put in
something third-party if your machine is a desktop.
