Hi Guys,
As a novice I had a Kenwood TS520.  I could turn the gain control down to 
less than 1 watt.  A friend of mine was about a quarter mile away and he did 
the same thing.  We were in north central Florida and it wasn't anything 
unusual for someone in Ohio to break in and want to join us.  I don't think 
we ever admitted to the small amount of power we were running.
