That's a good point regarding legumes. Inci mentioned clover and birdsfoot
trefoil being legumes, and I think alfalfa is a legume too. The small but
significant quantities of short, leafy legumes in wild fields could account
for the evolving of enough phytase among cattle's ancestors to partially
digest cereal grains.
