Hi,
I have no problem asking for help if I really need it, but my Dad taught me
to be self-reliant and so I only ask for help as a last resort. I didn't
need any help to put up my present antenna system, but I could have asked
for help if I needed it from hams that I know.

Life is full of challenges, that's what makes it interesting!

>I thought I'd better sit on this one for a while, before I posted on it.
>my XYL and I are in a relationship.
>as you are well aware, it's all about comprimise.
>let me put it in terms that'll make it easier on all concerned.
>first point,
>we rent this property.
>i.e. we don't own it. so anything I put up here must be able to be torn
>down at a moment's notice and single handedly. i.e. one person job.
>secondly, she and I had many troubles with cb operators many years back
>and I suspect a good many of them listen to, or have, migrated to the
>ham bands.
>knowing the majority of cb operators around sydney as I do, save those
>that choose to stay well out of the whole main stream 40 channel
>spectrum, a high portion of those operators would rather rob you then help.
>and as much as we want to believe amateur operators are a more civilised
>bunch,,, for the most part, they are.
>this is due partly to the fact that by law, they have to be. i.e.
>following correct operating procedures.
>and partly to the fact that a good many of them are x cb operators that
>got out of the game due to the afforemensioned ratbag element.
>neither the XYL or I wish to take the risk in inviting people we don't
>know from addam over, only to find ourselves in a pile of dung we won't
>be able to dig our way out of.
>we rarely have people round as it is, and those we do have round we know
>rather well, and trust.
>and thus my friends, we come to the crux of the matter.
>neither of us trust easily.
>and as much as other hams might wish to help, people, in general, do not
>care for other people's predicament. thus, you end up with an
>installation you can't tackle on your own if need be, and an unhappy
>landlord.
>if it were our own house, and we trusted the people to do what we asked
>of them, then yes I'd allow people to assist me.
>as it stands now, it's simply a case of:
>fooll me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me. fool me thrice,
>then it's my own stupid fault.
>sorry for the long pose, I just want people to understand where it is we
>are coming from.
