No, you can leave the far end alone.  Just strip the end you will attach to 
the antenna ground screw.   Since you have dissimilar metals here: copper 
wire and aluminum antenna, you should get some Penatrox or No-alox and put 
some on the wire ends you are connecting to the antenna.   You can get a 
small tube or plastic bottle at Homo Depot or Lowe's for a couple of bucks 
in the electrical dept.   It will prevent corrosion and oxidation of your 
connection.  This is the same stuff you would use  when putting the antenna 
together to  assure good  electrical  contact between the antenna parts.
