I believe I read an article that says Kenwood offers a control head that will let you update from a D71A to the features of a D710A.

Speaking of this radio, they just came out with a firmware update for the
71 and 710. The only improvement I see for the 71 is they have moved the mike sensitivity to the menu (111) so you don't have to have the programming software to change this. Before you do this though, be sure and export your data as you'll have to reload it. Just saving it as a file won't work as you get this "invalid market code" b s. Also, and I don't know why this isn't included, but none of your menu settings are saved with this, so you have to redefine these as well. On many of these rigs, the audio, which is set at medium, is quite low.
