I don't think the amount of RAM has anything to do with this, as
millions of PCs use 512 or even 256 MB without problem. Drivers should
always be obtained from the computer maker, as they often modify them
for their purposes. I am not aware of any exceptions to this policy.
Your problem may be with the RAM or the HDD.
Boot to the utility partition (F12 at boot, as I recall) and run the
diagnostic for the HDD and the RAM. Open the case and check for
dust/dirt in the fans and heat sink. In many models, the front of the
case is easily detached to remove dust accumulations in that area.
