I'd like to understand that "whiting" problem. It doesn't sound like a
performance problem so much as a video problem, or a monitor going bad.
Do have the latest video drivers?
How much RAM do have?
Adobe recommends the paging file be on a separate disk, so how have you
got yours set?

I'm thinking that "fragment" might be your windows paging file.
Somewhere in virtual memory you can control that. To test, go in and set
it to no paging file, restart and look for the fragment, I bet it goes
away.
