The antenna tuner in the radio is reasonable, like all the current internal
tuners that use relays, it will adjust antennas that are close but if it's
way off, no good. You'd just have to try it, if it's not enough, LDG makes a
great line of external auto tuners. You can set power and mic gain and stuff
by counting clicks, it will beep at the highest and lowest setting and stay
there, in other words, you get it on low power and keep turning the dial
toward low power it will stay there and keep beeping while you turn it, you
have to turn it the other way to get the power up, PL tones and other
settings are the same way. If you get the info from
www.icanworkthisthing.com and just go over it while you use the radio,
you'll be in good shape. I use the cross band repeat on the radio a bit in
the summer months, it's pretty good. You set it around 20 or 25 watts, it
will do it all day. I've done that with special events when we had too much
traffic on 2 meters, I put the TS-2000 on cross band so I can do packet
demonstrations and put the go kit radio on 440 to do it and the TS-2000 will
run like that all day long and never even break a sweat, and with the packet
activity around here, that's saying a heck of a lot.
