You are correct, John.  They run at 8.4 volts nominally, and have a 
somewhat smaller current reservoir than the typical 9 volt alkaline.  They 
work well for applications where you are using them on short discharge 
cycles with frequent recharges, but not very well for discharge cycles of 
longer durations at lower current drains.
