Believe me, I really prefer the old Astron linear-type supplies that you
have mentioned, but the Samlex switcher isn't that bad.
I don't seem to get much if any RF interference, and the fan on my Samlex
has never run as long as I've used it. Of course, I have the 35-amp
variety, and only draw 18 to 20 amps at most when transmitting in CW with
100 watts on HF.
Switchers really do seem to be a good option, in my opinion, where space is
at a premium.
