Ed,

NLS uses a proprietary variation of the DAISY format which, among other 
things, requires a user authorization key (known as a UAK).  If you try to 
play an NLS book without the UAK, you'll hear a message telling you that you 
need to get a key.  It's actually an .MP3 file in the book folder.
