Most stores that I've been at have a numeric keypad but not necessarily always
laid out like a phone keypad. Of course, most of us probably have access to a
credit card which doesn't require a Pin.

Subject: high tech solution

This answer is related to my question about using debit and/or credit cards.
It a shame there isn't a simple solution like connecting a keyboard to the
store's compputer and using the keyboard to type the pin or signature.
