TALKING COMMUNITIES TO HOST FREE WEB-BASED SYMPOSIUM

Can you really access the Web with just a telephone? What are the
differences between the BrailleNote and the PAC Mate? Is there an
organization truly devoted to assisting blind and visually impaired
people individually? How can I start audio descriptions of live
theater in my community? Just what is Talking Communities and how can
it help me?

These are just some of the questions to which you'll find answers at An

Accessible World, the next symposium slated for Wednesday, September
8,
2004 beginning at 12:00 pm Pacific time (1:00 pm Mountain, 2:00 pm
Central and 3:00 pm Eastern time) and concluding at 5:45 pm Pacific
(6:45 pm Mountain, 7:45 Central and 8:45 pm Eastern time).

"There's no cost to those who want to participate in this symposium",
explains George Buys, president and CEO of Talking Communities. "You
can join with people from throughout the world and never leave your
home or office. You'll need a computer that connects to the Internet,
a sound card and speakers. Of course, if you wish to ask questions by
voice, you'll need a microphone as well."

Those interested in participating in the symposium should visit
www.talkingcommunities.com and click on the special event link provided

for this symposium. First time users will be required to download a
very small program upon entering the symposium. Your computer
essentially turns into a two way communication device! And again, the
program is available at no cost and can be downloaded well in advance
of the symposium.

Speakers at the September 8 event include: J. R.Westmoreland, a
telecommunications planner at PacifiCorp., Salt Lake City; Carol M.
McCarl, executive director, Blindskills, Inc., Salem Oregon; Nolan
Crabb, assistant editor, Blindskills, Inc.; Steve Jacobs, president of
The Ideal Group, Hilliard, Ohio; Clyde Foley, Talking Communities; Kim
Charlson, chair of the Cultural Access Consortium and a board member of

Audio Description International; and Mary Watkins, marketing director,
WGBH Access Group-MOPIX Project.

A software engineer for more than 20 years, J. R.Westmoreland uses both

the BrailleNote and the PAC Mate. He'll discuss the pros and cons of
each unit and explain which one he now uses most and why he ultimately
settled on it. His session begins at 12:00 noon Pacific Time.

>From 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Pacific time, Carol M. McCarl and Nolan Crabb
will take you on an in-depth tour of Blindskills, Inc., exploring the
organization's beginnings, its current projects, and how it can help
symposium participants.

>From 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm Pacific time, you'll learn from Steve Jacobs
how to access the Worldwide Web with a standard telephone.

>From 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm Pacific time, you'll get a better
understanding of Talking Communities and its mission and future from
Clyde
Foley.

Beginning at 4:15 pm Pacific Time and ending at 5:45 pm Pacific Time,
Kim Charlson and Mary Watkins will take you through the steps necessary

to get audio description included in live theater, guided tours, and
museum exhibits in your community. They will cover such issues as
training, funding, and more.
