     I did a quick search on E-Bay and found labeling tape that looked like it would work at some good prices. Just a thought.

It might have to do with the texture of the tape itself.  If the labeling 
tape has a rough surface I find it doesn't run through the labeler as well. 
If the texture is smooth then it does all right.  Most labelers come 
packaged with a half inch roll inside of them.
