I used to be a member of the Murgas Amateur Radio Club (K3YTL) in Wilkes
Barre, Pennsylvania.
Check out the following description of the 1905 telegraphy station set
up by Father Joseph Murgas.

Notice that they did not have to deal with tower restrictions back then.
Secretary of the Navy Teddy Roosevelt was among those who visited the
station. At the time this was a long distance to communicate over land.
Many thought that an ocean path was necessary.
