I need to be sure I'm understanding you correctly here:

When using the external tuner, are you saying you go from radio, to TW1,  to 
tuner, to antenna?

I would have thought it'd be the other way around:

from radio, to tuner, to TW1, to antenna.

Help me out with an explanation.

Also, the MFJ 901B that I have has no bby-pass on it, so I'm assuming then 
that if I use the auto-tuner in the TS480, I'd have to disconnect the 
outboard tuner, unless the circuit for the out-board tuner is somehow 
bypassed in the TS480 when using the internal auto-tuner.

Anyone else with thoughts on these issues?
