    Are you saying that one must both use a pin AND sign?  News to me.  Yes, 
the pin is primarily used for debit cards.  I never use my debit card for 
only shopping, for it does not have the same protection that credit cards 
have.  And yes, credit cards have a security number on the back (I forget 
what its called).  I do see more and more online sites asking for that 
number.
