Hi Judee,  

There are a number of ways that we thwart vitamin D production: 
1. Through daily bathing we wash away the skin oils needed to interact with
sunlight;  
2. By wearing clothes that cover most of our bodies, we also interfere with
that process;
3. Sun screen is designed to filter out UV rays. 
Etc. etc. 

Clearly, the answer is to stop bathing, spend some topless time outside, and
don't use sun screen. You might not smell very good but I guarantee that the
men in your neighborhood will be keeping an eye on you. :-)

Nonsense aside, our lifestyle thwarts vitamin D production. It is not very
long since once-a-week bathing was common, and most of us now labor inside
offices, stores, and other shelters all day long on most days. This
lifestyle was not the norm even as recently as 75-100 years ago.

I take vitamin D3, 1000 iu about three days a week.  Texas has lots of
sunshine.  Modern man must be eating or drinking something that flushes D
out of the body if so many are low in this nutrient OR blocks the
assimilation.  Maybe calcium.....?   Nutrients work in concert.  If one is
too high doesn't this tip the scale and affect the others?  I have read that
this is true of the B's.  I think I'll have some blood work done.
