the diodes, or perhaps they are jumpers, i can't remember, are extremely
tiny, surface mount type components.
They are bunched into a group of about 15 or 20 like sized surface mount
components, in a very small square under the battery compartment.
I'm not sure if you meant you will perform the mod, or if you will have
someone do it, but the guy who did it for me used a magnifying glass and
tiny needle nose plyers to do the mod.
There is no physical way for a blind person to do it, unless you can have
someone point out which of the tiny dots to crush, and even then, the square
opening isn't big enough to have your finger in there feeling and have
someone looking at the same time to guide you.
Anyway, its a 2 minute mod for someone good with surface mount stuff.
If the 2 or 3 components were all by themselves it would be a breeze without
being able to see them.
I like the older HT's specifically because you could nearly always find the
obvious jumpers or wires and clip them to extend xmit and receive.
