"JACK "is Back!..After a long wait, the 2004 children's story "The Trouble
that Jack Had" is FINALLY available online from www.chw.org Search under "C" at
Children's home page and click on the Bonnie Lynn Mechanic Celiac Disease
Clinic. The link to JACK is in the side box.
You can read the book online OR make your own copy using the Adobe
Acrobat Print function--Find "Page Scaling"and select 'Booklet Printing.' For a
sturdier cover, use card stock weight paper for the first page. (You may want to
experient to make sure you know how the pages need to be flipped...)
Jack's story was written by Jane Pintavalle and Diane Pintavalle, his mother &
grandmother. It gives a child-size explanation of Jack's illness, diagnosis,
and recovery on the gluten-free diet. Illustrations were done by MCSC member
Peter Zielinski. It's a great story that's especially cute in color but just
as helpful in black & white.
"The Trouble that Jack Had" was first published and freely distributed by
Milwaukee's Friends of Celiac Disease. After a very productive 5 years (which
included the first public service announcement on celiac featuring Rich
Gannon), the group's resources were redirected to establilsh the Bonnie Lynn
Mechanic Celiac Disease Clinic at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Friends' earlier "Going Gluten-Free" booklet was equally helpful and is available
as information sheets from the website. The information has been updated to
reflect current FDA allergen labeling requirements.
Enjoy!
