Bill and others,
Last night there was a modest opening on 10 meters and I was working a
number of southern and mid-west stations from my QTH near Philly. I got a
call from a fairly new ham who was about 3 miles from me as the RF flies.
He was in an apartment and using a B and W AP-10 antenna. Said he had been
using it on 40 CW, but I was only his second SSB contact.
Said he was running 100 watts. I asked if he had RFI or neighbor complaints
and he said no. I tried to pick his brain a little, but he had mic fright
and I could only get half word answers out of him. Had the impression
that the whip was out the window, but not sure where the counterpoise was,
inside or out.
If I hear him in the future I'll see how he is doing contact wise and RFI
wise. Hopefully the villagers won't kick down his door with torches and
pitchforks.

Said his first SSB QSO on 10 was to Georgia.
