Hi.

I am in the process of trying to renew my license as it expires on
5/6/08. I received a packet from W5YI VEC in early February with all of
the forms supposedly already completed so that all I had to do was sign it,
and include a check with the vanity call fee and their $7.00 service
fee. While I probably should have gone through the ARRL (cheaper), it
meant having to contact them and get the same stuff by placing a phone call
during business hours and making a long distance call from work is
something I hate to do.

So, I took what I thought was the path of least resistance and just wrote
out the check, signed the forms, and shipped it off.

Here is what happened. On February 26, 2008 the license for K2LKK was
updated. However, nothing changed. It still expires on 5/6/08 and every
other detail of the license is still active. Also, my former call, KA2DQA,
is now issued to me once again, but it also expires on 5/6/08.

I have sent e-mails off to W5YI asking them about this, and I intend to
bite the bullet and follow it up with a telephone call on Monday to see if
I can investigate what happened.

I guess the next time I will just contact the ARRL since I'm going to have
to make a long distance phone call anyway, and I'm $7 poorer to boot. You
know, I miss the good days when the FCC handled this stuff directly and we
had only one bureaucracy to deal with instead of two.

73, de Lou (K2LKK or KA2DQA -- only the Shadow knows...)
